Tired of sunshine, singing birds and all these smiling people around? Good.

PARADISE LOST have just the right amount of misery and grimness at hand for you and are ready to release the testimony of last year’s intimate streaming event “At The Mill” today, to herald this year’s autumn. As final appetizer from the show, PARADISE LOST have unveiled the live video of their legendary hit ‘As I Die’ and guitarist and songwriter Greg Mackintosh comments: “This song is almost 30 years old and its popularity amongst our fans, old and new, still amazes us. It marked a turning point in our career and if you missed it, here it is played live at The Mill.”

Captured at The Mill Nightclub near the band’s hometown in Yorkshire, England, the recording of the Blu Ray was directed by Ash Pears, who previously worked with the band on their music videos for “Medusa” and “Obsidian”. Mixed by Les Smith and mastered by Jaime Gomez Arellano, the show will be available in various formats including CD, Blu-Ray and different vinyl colors. Today, the band unveils another appetizer for the release with a live performance of their evergreen ‘One Second‘ that you can watch below.

While we’re all eager to get back to concerts and festivals, singer Nick Holmes looks back on the previous year and comments: “I wish the lockdown had just been for One Second, unfortunately it’s been over a year.”

Order the album here and re-live our own coverage of that night at this location.

To bring back first bittersweet memories from better days when concerts were still a thing, the band releases a haunting yet beautiful live version from “Darker Thoughts” that you can below.

“Due to the ban on live music, we, like many other bands, have had to adapt and do something we never thought we’d have to do”, reflects guitarist and songwriter Greg Mackintosh on the release. “No, not stacking shelves in Aldi like Metallica, but playing a show at a disused mill in Yorkshire with no one else there. We decided against trying to pretend there was an audience in the room with us, opting instead for a rather moribund version of a live lounge show. Whilst never being pleased with anything, we were however slightly less miserable at the result. It was also almost fun playing some of our new album Obsidian within the set for the first time too. We can now announce that we will be releasing this show as an official CD/Blu-Ray and vinyl imaginatively entitled At the Mill.”

Formed in Halifax, West Yorkshire, in 1988, PARADISE LOST were unlikely candidates for metal glory when they slithered from the shadows and infiltrated the UK underground. But not content with spawning an entire subgenre with early death/doom masterpiece “Gothic” nor with conquering the metal mainstream with the balls-out power of 1995’s “Draconian Times”, they have subsequently traversed multiple genre boundaries with skill and grace, evolving through the pitch-black alt-rock mastery of ‘90s classics “One Second” and “Host” to the muscular but ornate grandeur of 2009’s “Faith Divides Us – Death Unites Us” and “Tragic Idol” (2012), with the nonchalant finesse of grand masters. The band’s last two albums – “The Plague Within” (2015) and “Medusa” (2017) – saw a much celebrated return to brutal, old school thinking, via two crushing monoliths to slow-motion death and spiritual defeat. Consistently hailed as one of metal’s most charismatic live bands, PARADISE LOST arrive in this new decade as veterans, legends and revered figureheads for several generations of gloomy metalheads. In keeping with their unerring refusal to deliver the expected, 2020 brings one of the band’s most diverse and devastating creations to date.
