US prog rock outfit The Mars Volta have announced Lucro Sucio; Unfinished Business, their first official live album since 2005’s Scabdates, for digital release on Sept. 4 and physical release on Oct. 16. The band has also shared a new single, “Cue the Sun/Alba del Orate.”
The album is the result of an interactive fan campaign that gave supporters direct access to live recordings from the band’s 2025 tour. The campaign featured audio previews from multiple live recordings alongside a fan-vote mechanism that allowed supporters to determine which specific performances would make the final cut.
Lucro Sucio; Unfinished Business will be available across three configurations. Physical collectors can choose between a Special Edition CD Digipak or a Limited Edition 2LP vinyl set, both releasing Oct. 16. The Sept. 4 digital release will be enhanced with Dolby Atmos spatial audio.
Formed in El Paso, Texas, in 2001 by vocalist Cédric Bixler-Zavala and guitarist Omar Rodríguez-López — both formerly of post-hardcore act At the Drive-In — The Mars Volta released their debut full-length, De-Loused in the Comatorium, in 2003, going on to release five more studio albums before disbanding in 2012. The band reunited in 2022 with the self-titled album The Mars Volta. Scabdates, their only previous official live release, documented the band’s 2004–2005 touring cycle.
