Christian metal veterans Stryper will return on September 25 with their 18th studio album, Throne Of Thorns, set for release through Frontiers Music Srl.
More than four decades into their career, Stryper continues to build on its legacy, combining the band’s signature lyrical themes with the melodic heavy metal sound that has defined it since the early days.
Drummer Robert Sweet expressed his excitement about the upcoming release: “Soon our new Stryper record will be out, and can you believe it? It’s album number 18! I really believe you’re all going to love it. Michael [Sweet, Stryper frontman] worked incredibly hard writing these songs and bringing everything together. Oz [Fox, Stryper guitarist], Perry [Richardson, Stryper bassist] and I also worked hard to make this what I feel is our best record yet. I’m confident that once you hear it, you’ll agree. Thank you all for your incredible loyalty and for continuing to support what we do.”
Alongside the album announcement, the band has released the title track, “Throne Of Thorns”, accompanied by an official music video.
Frontman Michael Sweet explained the meaning behind the song: “‘Throne Of Thorns’ is a powerful message. Christ is on the throne, and we are redeemed because of the crown of thorns that He endured. This song is a perfect representation of our 43 years and who we were and who we are. Heavy yet melodic, classic yet modern, and 100% Stryper!”
According to the band, Throne Of Thorns delivers the combination of heavy riffs, melodic hooks and layered arrangements that longtime fans have come to expect. The record pairs powerful rhythms, dual guitar harmonies and memorable choruses while continuing to push the band’s songwriting forward.
At the center of the album is Michael Sweet, whose distinctive vocal style remains one of Stryper‘s defining trademarks. His performance moves comfortably between soaring melodies and more emotional passages, giving the new material both power and depth.
Bassist Perry Richardson shared his thoughts on the album’s creative process: “The best music doesn’t come from comfort. It comes from living, struggling, growing, and refusing to quit. I hope these songs find you exactly when you need them.”
With Throne Of Thorns, Stryper continues to develop its sound while staying true to the identity that has carried the band through more than 40 years in metal.
Guitarist Oz Fox added: “I’m really happy with the final outcome of this record and of the heart that went into it. Michael continues to pour everything he has into the music and the message; Robert brings the power and energy that have always been the pulse of Stryper; Perry‘s musicianship, vocal talents, and dedication are second to none, and I’m grateful to be on this journey with all of them.”
With its 18th studio album on the way, Stryper also has a busy touring schedule ahead. The band will kick off a full U.S. tour on July 17 in Arlington, Texas, bringing the new material to fans across the country.
