Former Mr. Bungle member Theobald “Theo” Brooks Lengyel has been arrested by the Capitola Police Department, in connection with the death of his girlfriend, Alice “Alyx” Kamakaokalani Herrmann.

Ms. Kamakaokalani, 61, vanished from her Capitola, California home in December 2023. What began as a missing person investigation morphed into a chilling hunt for answers when foul play was suspected. The Capitola Police Department, joined by multiple agencies, painstakingly reconstructed the events leading up to Ms. Kamakaokalani‘s disappearance.

Their trail led them to Mr. Lengyel, 54, and ultimately to a wooded area in Tilden Regional Park, Berkeley, where remains believed to be Ms. Kamakaokalani‘s were discovered. Confirmation awaits DNA analysis from the Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office.

“The diligent work of our investigators, in coordination with our law enforcement partners, has led to the apprehension of Theobald Lengyel in connection with the tragic homicide of Alice Kamakaokalani,” stated the Capitola Police Department, offering their deepest condolences to Ms. Kamakaokalani‘s loved ones.

Lengyel, once known for his avant-garde musical explorations as a member of Mr. Bungle, now faces the stark reality of a murder investigation. The Capitola Police Department, alongside the Santa Cruz County District Attorney’s Office, vowed a thorough prosecution to ensure justice for Ms. Kamakaokalani.

Lengyel played saxophone, clarinet, and keyboards in Mr. Bungle between 1986 and 1995, performing on all the band’s albums from 1986’s “The Raging Wrath Of The Easter Bunny”  to 1995’s “Disco Volante”.
