Saxon, the enduring titans of heavy metal, have released their 24th studio album, “Hell, Fire and Damnation” today (January 19th, 2024). We recently published our review of the album, and now you can get a glimpse into the creative process behind the album, with an exclusive interview with the band’s frontman, Biff Byford.
In an informative chat with our contributor Rodrigo Altaf, Biff discussed the addition of guitarist Brian Tatler (also of Diamond Head), who replaced long-standing member Paul Quinn, the band’s evolution, and the main themes on the album. The conversation delves into the challenges faced during the tumultuous 90s, showcasing Saxon‘s unyielding spirit in the face of adversity and the participation on the reality show “Get Your Act Together”, which brought the band back on track.
The pair also discussed the touring plans with Judas Priest and Uriah Heep, Byford’s journey from bass player to becoming one of metal’s most recognizable frontmen, and whether or not Saxon will ever release a concept album. Dive in and listen to their chat below!
