Anneke van Giersbergen burst onto the scene in the mid 90s when the Dutch progressive death metal band The Gathering decided to start doing things a little differently. Since then, this siren of the lowlands has led a varied and busy enough career to exhaust musicians half her age, transitioning into and out of metal, trip-hop, pop, acoustic folk, rock, and back into metal with The Gentle Storm and VUUR. She’s never been known to frown.

Anneke was gracious enough to ring up the sleepless Gonzalo Pozo, senior staffer at the Sonic Perspectives Texas bureau, to discuss life, the universe, parenthood, and her upcoming live album Symphonized, a career retrospective that pairs her with the Residentie Orkest for a two-night performance in The HagueSymphonized will be released in North America on November 16, 2018, and she will tour the United States in the Fall of 2019 in support of Delain and Amorphis
