This week, Ukrainian modern progressive metal icons Jinjer, Audiotree, and Napalm Records partnered up to present a very special edition of Audiotree From Nothing. The brand new segment features raw, intense performances of fan-favorite tracks “Vortex”, “Wallflower,” and “Dead Hands Feel No Pain” amid in-depth interview footage.
When Jinjer first began, their circumstances were uniquely challenging. Hailing from the small town of Gorlovka, Donbass in Ukraine, the band has spent the last 15 years climbing the ranks to become one of the greatest forces in modern metal. Their sound is riddled with off-kilter chord progressions, and unconventional melodies, and glued together by the band’s lyricist and singer, Tatiana Shmayluk, whose personal and in-the-moment approach to songwriting creates a powerful sense of presence in all of her recordings.
The group has undergone a lot of transformation, but their commitment to their core unit is not one of them, expressing “it’s hard to imagine being a part of any other band.” Touching on themes of social anxiety, isolation, cancel culture, self-realization, and trauma, Jinjer leaves no stone unturned. What struck us the most was their no-bullshit attitude, which in turn gave way to a no-bullshit performance.
Recorded at Audiotree Studios in Chicago, IL on August 31, 2023, Jinjer‘s Audiotree From Nothing session is available to watch and stream. Check it out below.
