British progressive rock pioneers Uriah Heep are preparing to bid farewell to the world stage with an extended global tour set to kick off in February 2025. This monumental farewell, aptly named “The Magician’s Farewell,” will run for two to three years, allowing fans from every corner of the globe to catch one final performance.
In a heartfelt video message released on September 19, guitarist Mick Box reflected on the band’s long and storied career, remarking (as transcribed by Blabbermouth): “Hello there. It’s Mick from the mighty HEEP. And who can believe next year is 55 years since the band started, and that’s just so amazing.” He continued, “Unfortunately, we have made the decision to wind down touring the whole world next year under the title of ‘Magician’s Farewell.’ Over the next two to three years, we intend to play as many places as possible and see you all for the one last time.”
While the band plans to significantly scale back their touring schedule after this farewell run, they will continue to perform at select festivals and special events. Box expressed deep gratitude to their dedicated fanbase, acknowledging the loyal support they’ve received over the years.
Known for their powerful live performances and distinctive sound, Uriah Heep has managed to maintain their signature style despite lineup changes. As Box previously stated, “As long as I’m there, the band’s gonna sound like URIAH HEEP.” This consistency, bolstered by producer Jay Ruston, has allowed the band to remain fresh while staying true to their roots.
Their latest album, “Chaos & Colour,” released in 2023, is a testament to the band’s enduring passion. Box has credited Ruston with understanding the essence of Uriah Heep, pulling out the best from the band during the recording process at Chapel Studios in London.
As the band approaches its 55th anniversary, their legacy in the world of rock is undeniable. Since their debut in 1970 with “Very ’Eavy, Very ’Umble”, Uriah Heep has sold over 40 million albums worldwide, performing more than 125 shows annually to half a million fans. The “Magician’s Farewell” tour will be a celebration of their remarkable journey and a final opportunity for fans to experience their legendary live performances.
