Known for their bold blend of genres and electrifying live shows, British glam rockers The Struts have released a reimagined version of their signature hit “Could Have Been Me”. This new version, featuring iconic Queen guitarist Sir Brian May, is now available on streaming platforms, accompanied by an official music video.
Originally a breakout anthem for the band, “Could Have Been Me” has become a powerful declaration of self-empowerment for fans worldwide. The song has topped rock playlists, dominated radio airwaves, and even made its way into pop culture with a feature in the hit Universal Pictures animated film Sing 2.
Frontman Luke Spiller expressed his excitement about revisiting the track alongside one of his heroes: “I’m absolutely ecstatic to announce that The Struts and I are set to release a reimagined version of “Could Have Been Me”, featuring my hero, the legendary Brian May! This song is all about seizing your dreams and living life to the fullest, no matter the obstacles. It’s a powerful anthem that reminds us to chase what sets our souls on fire. Collaborating with Brian on this track is a dream realized, and I can’t wait for you all to feel the energy and inspiration behind it. Hopefully this song will go on to inspire many more people to take life by the scruff of the neck and drink it down deeply! Every day is a gift. Let’s celebrate them together x.”
Brian May, one of the most celebrated guitarists in rock history, is best known as a founding member of Queen, a band that has sold more than 300 million records worldwide. His legendary riffs and compositions have shaped some of the most recognizable songs in music history. May’s career has also been immortalized through the Oscar-winning biopic Bohemian Rhapsody and his work on the smash-hit musical We Will Rock You.
Speaking about the collaboration with The Struts, May shared his admiration for the band and their signature track: “Working with Luke and The Struts has been a joyous journey for me. I became obsessed with this great song ever since I was inspired by the original version and felt an uncontrollable urge to mess with it! It carries a great positive message for rebellious kids of all ages. And, together, WE ROCK!!”
The Struts burst onto the global rock scene in 2015 with their debut album Everybody Wants, instantly making their mark with their modern glam-rock energy and fearless style. Songs like “Could Have Been Me”, “Kiss This”, and “Body Talks” quickly cemented their reputation as one of the most exciting new acts in rock.
Their success has led to high-profile tours supporting some of rock’s biggest names, including The Rolling Stones, Foo Fighters, Guns N’ Roses, and Mötley Crüe. Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters once praised them as “the best opening band we’ve ever had.”
With multiple studio albums under their belt — including Young & Dangerous (2018), Strange Days (2020), and Pretty Vicious (2023) — The Struts continue to evolve while staying true to their flamboyant and energetic roots. This new collaboration with Brian May marks another milestone in their growing legacy, breathing new life into one of their most beloved songs and giving fans a fresh reason to celebrate.
