If you like hard and classic rock, chances are that without you even being aware, Tony Franklin, also known as The Fretless Monster, might be the bass player on half of your album collection. Starting his career with Roy Harper, he also played with Jimmy Page in The Firm and with John Sykes in Blue Murder, among other names like Paul Rodger, David Gilmour, Kate Bush, Whitesnake, etc. Tony is a legend of the fretless bass, and aside from a solid and diverse career as a session musician, he also had a lengthy stint with Kenny Wayne Shepherd

Nowadays Tony continues his restless musical endeavours as a coveted session played, and also serves as a counselor on the Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp, mentoring aspiring musicians along with Craig Goldy, James Kottak, Nita Strauss and others. In this interview, Sonic Perspectives’ contributor Rodrigo Altaf dissected Tony‘s career, talking in details since the early beginnings – when he took the first bass on his hands –  to what he’s up to nowadays.
