On January 11th, 2025, the “Revenge of the Underworld Tour” descended upon the Culture Room in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, delivering a night of brutal death metal for a packed crowd. Each band offered their own devastating flavor, and the intimate setting made for an intensely personal experience.
The night kicked off with the visceral and unrelenting Embryonic Autopsy, whose blend of brutal death metal and grotesque imagery set a fitting tone for what was to come. They opened with “Regurgitated and Reprocessed,” immediately hitting the audience with punishing riffs and guttural vocals. Their set was a full-on assault on the senses, with tracks like “Dripping in the Vaginal Nector” and “Cleopatra’s Spawn” showcasing their signature grotesque themes and uncompromising sound. The closer, “Cauterized Womb Impalement,” was the perfect capstone, leaving the crowd thoroughly shocked and energized.

Next up was Psycroptic, with Origin’s Jason Keyser stepping in as vocalist for the tour. His high-energy presence added a fresh dynamic to Psycroptic’s already technically dazzling sound. They opened with “The Watcher of All,” showing off their precise, complex riffing and tight rhythms. The standout moment came during “Ob(Servant),” a fan-favorite that saw the crowd completely immersed in the technical prowess of the band. Psycroptic’s intensity never wavered, closing out their set with “Enslavement” and leaving the audience craving more.

For me, Six Feet Under was the most anticipated act of the night, having been a fan for over two decades without ever seeing them live. They absolutely exceeded my expectations, with Chris Barnes delivering a crushing vocal performance. They opened with “Torn to the Bone” and followed with fan favorites like “Silent Violence” and “Beneath The Black Sky,” each track hitting with ferocious impact.
One of the highlights of the set—and perhaps the entire night—was their performance of Cannibal Corpse’s “Hammer Smashed Face.” As someone who first encountered this track in Ace Ventura back in the ’90s, seeing Chris perform it live brought back all the nostalgia of discovering metal for the first time. The entire set was a brutal celebration of Six Feet Under‘s legacy, and their covers of “Stripped, Raped and Strangled” and “Hammer Smashed Face” were the perfect way to close it out.

Nile took the stage as headliners, closing the night with a set that was nothing short of epic. Their blend of technical death metal and ancient Egyptian themes brought a dark, atmospheric energy to the room. They opened with “Stelae of Vultures” and from there launched into a masterful display of speed, precision, and brutality. “Sacrifice Unto Sebek” and “Smashing the Antiu” were absolute highlights, with Karl Sanders and Brian Kingsland serving up blistering guitar work. The set hit a peak with the monumental “Kafir!” and the crushing “In the Name of Amun,” followed by the haunting “Sarcophagus.” As the night drew to a close, Nile unleashed “Black Seeds of Vengeance,” ending the show on a high note with a track that perfectly encapsulated their mythic and brutal sound. Nile’s performance left no doubt that they are one of the finest death metal acts in the world, both technically and thematically.
“The Revenge of the Underworld Tour” was a night of pure death metal excellence. From the relentless brutality of Embryonic Autopsy to the intricate technicality of Psycroptic, the nostalgic power of Six Feet Under, and the otherworldly intensity of Nile, every band delivered an unforgettable performance. The Culture Room’s intimate setting only amplified the energy, making this one of the most memorable metal shows I’ve attended in years. For death metal fans, this tour is a must-see.
