Legendary vocalist Paul Rodgers has confirmed that he will not attend Bad Company’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony this weekend, citing ongoing health issues.
The event is set to take place on Saturday, November 8, at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. Just last week, drummer Simon Kirke revealed that he and Rodgers had intended to perform two songs together at the ceremony alongside a group of guest musicians.
However, on Monday, November 3, the 75-year-old frontman shared an update announcing that he would not be taking part in the celebration.
“My hope was to be at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and to perform for the fans, but at this time I have to prioritize my health,” Rodgers said. “I have no problem singing, it’s the stress of everything else. Thank you for understanding.
“Simon along with some outstanding musicians will be stepping in for me – guaranteed to rock.”
Rodgers, who was born in Middlesbrough, has faced significant health struggles over the last decade. In 2016, he suffered a major stroke, followed by a second one three years later. After the second incident, he underwent a carotid endarterectomy, a surgical procedure designed to remove plaque buildup from the carotid artery, which supplies oxygenated blood to the brain, face, and neck.
Bad Company will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the performer’s category, joining a class that includes Soundgarden, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Cyndi Lauper, Outkast, and The White Stripes.
