Influential black metal pioneers Mayhem have announced the release of their seventh studio album, Liturgy Of Death, arriving February 6, 2026, via Century Media. With this record, the band continues to push the limits of extreme metal, four decades into their storied career. The album centers on themes of death, loss, fear, and the frailty of life, offering an unflinching look at humanity’s inevitable end.
According to the band, Liturgy Of Death explores “loss, fear of dying, powerlessness and the fragility of existence through a stark and unrelenting lens.”
The first single, “Weep For Nothing”, captures this vision with brutal precision. The track turns the fear of mortality into a form of revelation — “a hymn to nothingness where grief becomes meaningless.” With its piercing riffs, relentless tempo, and cold grandeur, the song embodies the suffocating spirit of black metal without offering comfort or reprieve.
Featuring Necrobutcher on bass, Hellhammer on drums, Attila Csihar on vocals, and guitarists Teloch and Ghul, Mayhem presents Liturgy Of Death as both a reflection on its legacy and a reaffirmation of its raw, uncompromising sound. The band describes the album as “dark, fast, and unrelenting,” a testament to their enduring influence and intensity.
As they mark forty-one years since their formation in Langhus, Norway, Mayhem remains one of the defining forces in black metal, continuing to shape and expand the genre they helped create. Liturgy Of Death follows their 2019 release Daemon and promises to be another landmark chapter in the band’s uncompromising evolution.
To coincide with the album’s release, Mayhem will embark on the Death Over Europe headlining tour in February 2026. Support will come from Marduk and Immolation, bringing together some of the most powerful acts in extreme metal for an unmissable run of shows.
