After a quarter-century of shaping the sound of progressive metal, Mastodon and longtime guitarist Brent Hinds have officially gone their separate ways. The band announced the split on social media, emphasizing that the decision was mutual and expressing gratitude for their years together.
“After 25 monumental years together, Mastodon and Brent Hinds have mutually decided to part ways. We’re deeply proud of and beyond grateful for the music and history we’ve shared and we wish him nothing but success and happiness in his future endeavors,” Mastodon shared in their statement.
While lineup changes are always significant, this one feels especially impactful. Hinds has been a cornerstone of Mastodon’s signature sound, from intricate riffs to his unmistakable presence both on and off stage. However, despite this shift, the band reassured fans that their 2025 tour plans remain intact, promising to continue delivering the high-energy performances their followers have come to expect (even when no clues were given about who will replace Hinds)
“We are still very inspired and excited to show up for fans in this next chapter of Mastodon. As we move forward, all 2025 touring plans will remain intact. We look forward to seeing you on the road.”
Mastodon will be touring with Coheed And Cambria and Periphery this May and June. The tour kicks off on May 10 at Salem Civic Center in Salem, VA and wraps up about a month later on June 8 at Vibrant Music Hall in Waukee, IA. Check out the itinerary below.
