The Steve Morse Band is set to release their long-awaited album, Triangulation, on November 14 through Music Theories Recordings. The second single, “TexUS,” featuring a special guest appearance by Eric Johnson, has arrived with its official music video.

When it comes to guitar legends, Steve Morse has long been a name synonymous with mastery, creativity, and technical brilliance. His latest project sees him reunited with longtime collaborators Dave LaRue — also of The Dixie Dregs, Steve Morse Band, and Flying Colors — and drummer Van Romaine, known for his work with Enrique Iglesias.

Morse shared his excitement about the group’s synergy, explaining: “Dave and Van have been the bedrock of this trio, and this recording shows why. These guys are unique and incredible musicians on their own, and together, our chemistry is magical. While making the album, we played together, working through parts, riffing off each other, and collaborating on arrangements. I’d bring an idea, and hear it instantly — and then hear it improved. We made this album together, and you can hear it.”

The album also features notable guest appearances. Eric Johnson adds his signature touch to “TexUS,” Dream Theater’s John Petrucci contributes his distinctive progressive edge, and Steve’s son Kevin Morse joins him on the emotional track “Taken By An Angel.”

Executive producer Bill Evans praised the record’s craftsmanship, stating, “The compositions are among Steve’s best. And audiences can finally hear every detail of Van and Dave’s performance…the band’s collaborative musicality.” Morse also credited his production team, noting, “Brian captured me brilliantly, and Carl Roa created more sonic and performance clarity than we’ve ever had.”

Morse’s career began in the mid-1970s with The Dixie Dregs, a jazz-rock fusion powerhouse that earned multiple Grammy nominations. In the 1980s, he formed the Steve Morse Band, earned another Grammy nod, and later joined Kansas before taking up a long-term role with Deep Purple in 1994. Despite global fame, he continued exploring new creative avenues with Living Loud, Angelfire, Flying Colors, and guitar supergroup G3.

In 2022, Morse stepped away from Deep Purple to care for his wife, Janine, who passed away in 2024. His departure marked the end of an era — he had become the band’s longest-serving guitarist.

After years of personal loss, Triangulation stands as both a creative renewal and a heartfelt reflection of resilience. Its nine tracks span a range of genres — from funk and blues to classical and metal — encapsulating the full scope of Morse’s musical vision.

“The album title Triangulation comes from the concept of aviators, navigators, and sailors looking at two points to pinpoint their exact location at a specific moment in time,” Morse explained. “It’s a geographical concept that also applies to human life on a broader level.” Given his personal journey, the metaphor feels especially fitting — a map of rediscovery after profound loss.

The song “Taken By An Angel” holds special significance as a tribute to Janine. Morse shared: “That song is new territory for me. It was put together for my late wife’s memorial service, with my son Kevin playing along. It brought tears to many folks’ eyes because Janine was a huge part of my life and career. People knew her from the Steve Morse Band tours. She was the smiling face opening CDs for me to sign, selling t-shirts, listening to people’s stories in the crowd, and taking photos for VIP visits.”

After years of grief and transition, Morse’s return to recording feels deeply meaningful. Within the guitar world, he remains revered as “your hero’s hero,” a phrase often reserved for the likes of Jeff Beck. With Triangulation, Morse reclaims his place as one of the most expressive and inventive players of his generation.

The band will take their new material on the road starting in October. “Every generation or so, we put out a new album, and the time is now!” Morse said. “We’ll be doing new material on stage and have enlisted a special guest, Angel Vivaldi, to help us perform some of the layered tunes in concert. Excited to have a bigger sound and new material! See you on tour!”

Drummer Van Romaine added: “I am so thrilled for this brand new major Steve Morse Band chapter with new tour dates and an album that was so much fun to record with Steve and Dave LaRue, and a couple of special guests. While music is always subjective, this Triangulation album is such a gem to me on many levels.”

With Triangulation, Steve Morse isn’t just back — he’s reminding the world why his name continues to echo through the halls of guitar history.
