Royale Lynn has officially dropped her debut album Black Magic via Epitaph Records, offering a genre-blurring collection that taps into both personal and mythological darkness. With her roots as a “metalhead from a small town,” Lynn uses the album to bridge the gap between heavy rock and emotionally rich storytelling.
Built around the legend of Pandora’s Box, each track on Black Magic explores one of the “evils” released into the world. She launched the record with the riff-heavy “Greed” and followed it up with “E.V.I.L.”, a sonic journey that reflects her ongoing confrontation with mental health and internal battles.
Today, she shares the record’s rebellious focus track, “WTCH.” It’s a bold declaration, wrapped in industrial-laced instrumentals and cut through with her sharp, clear vocals. The song’s defiant hook taunts critics, and its closing breakdown features her first-ever recorded screams.
“I love the lore of magic and things that we can’t see with our own eyes, so I thought “WTCH” fit perfectly into the album concept,” Lynn says. “There are people out there who think I sold my soul, and with this song I’m telling them, ‘Maybe you just don’t understand the art and that’s okay.’ It’s okay to be different.”
The video for “WTCH” is just as unapologetic. Lynn appears as a witchy ringleader at an industrial rave, surrounded by a horde of lost souls—another nod to the album’s themes of darkness, transformation, and power reclaimed.
Through Black Magic, Lynn also brings her personal mental health journey into sharp focus. She describes each song as an extension of her lived experience: “Every song on Black Magic is about mental health; I want to tell my stories in hopes that it might help others. I think that music saves lives. Growing up, I struggled with managing my mental health, and I know some of my best friends struggled, too. I think this music gives us a safe space where we can be honest with ourselves. I wanted to show the community that they aren’t alone.”
The record features standout tracks like “Death Wish” (featuring Danny Worsnop of Asking Alexandria), which landed at No. 27 on the rock radio charts. “Battleground” tackles the painful process of leaving a toxic relationship, while “Sacrifice” presents a visual portrayal of the weight of mental illness.
Her 2024 run has been packed. After signing with Epitaph, Lynn was named a Loudwire “Artist To Watch” and called “a ferocious newcomer with ceiling-scraping vocals” by Billboard. She performed at major festivals like Louder Than Life, Welcome To Rockville, and Aftershock, where she joined Disturbed onstage.
Touring alongside Skillet, Seether, and Asking Alexandria, she’s built a following of over a million across social media and has amassed more than 76 million global streams. This July, she’ll headline her own U.S. shows.
Black Magic makes clear that Royale Lynn is not just a rising star, she’s a voice for a new generation of rock fans searching for meaning, honesty, and something that hits as hard as it heals.
