Twice Grammy-nominated artist Poppy is set to release her highly anticipated seventh studio album, Empty Hands, on January 23, 2026, via Sumerian Records. To give fans a taste of what’s to come, she has unveiled a new single, “Bruised Sky”, now available on all streaming platforms.
Empty Hands continues to showcase Poppy’s evolution as an artist who defies categorization. With each release, she blurs the boundaries of genre, and this record is no exception. The upcoming album blends industrial textures, pop hooks, and flashes of surrealism that call back to her early experimental work, all wrapped around her distinctive, otherworldly vocals.
“Bruised Sky” stands out as one of Poppy’s heaviest tracks to date. The song features her intense, shape-shifting vocal delivery—moving seamlessly from ethereal melodies to deep, guttural growls. As her voice intensifies, so does the instrumental backing, with roaring guitars that mirror her energy. The track was produced and co-written by longtime collaborator Jordan Fish, while the music video, directed by Orie McGinness, places Poppy and her band in a grim, dystopian setting that visually matches the song’s raw emotion.
The release of Empty Hands follows a year of major milestones for Poppy. Her collaboration with Knocked Loose, “Suffocate”, earned a nomination for “Best Metal Performance” at the 2025 Grammy Awards. She previously made history in 2021 as the first female solo artist ever nominated in that same category for her track Bloodmoney.
Beyond music, Poppy continues to expand her creative reach. She has ventured into performance art with her new variety show Improbably Poppy, explored directing, authored a sci-fi graphic novel, and toured the world. Her sound and aesthetic stretch across brutal metal breakdowns, bright 1960s pop influences, trap-inspired beats, and grunge-punk energy—each facet reinforcing her reputation as one of today’s most fearless and versatile artists.
