A new eight-part docuseries from the creators of the hit wrestling series Dark Side of the Ring will take a deep dive into the “untold” history of heavy metal when it premieres on September 22. The series, Into the Void: Life, Death & Heavy Metal, currently being developed for Hulu, carries a working title inspired by Black Sabbath’s iconic song: “Into the Void”.
Into the Void explores the intense struggles and cultural influence of some of heavy metal’s most iconic figures. The series shares deeply personal stories of musicians whose paths to fame were marked by chaos, tragedy, rebellion, and redemption, blending powerful narratives of success with tales of murder, addiction, and survival.
Created by Jason Eisner and Evan Husney, the minds behind the acclaimed pro wrestling documentary series Dark Side of the Ring, the show aims to bring the same raw storytelling to the world of heavy metal. Dark Side of the Ring became Vice TV’s most-watched series, setting high expectations for this new project.
The series promises an unfiltered look at the genre, moving beyond the image of electrifying performances and screaming guitars. It delves into the human side of heavy metal, uncovering themes of trauma, grief, identity, and resilience that have shaped the artists and their music.
In an Instagram post, Husney expressed his excitement about the project, saying: “We both grew up as diehard fans of metal and have always been fascinated by the boundaries between fantasy and reality. The sonic worlds created by the genre’s boldest icons are rich with untold history and unimaginable trials and tribulations, and we’re excited to team up with Hulu to look beyond the mystique and show these legends as real people.”
Using rare archival footage, first-hand accounts, and untold stories, Into the Void digs beneath the headlines to reveal the emotional journeys behind some of the most celebrated and misunderstood musicians in heavy metal history.
Into the Void promises to deliver an unprecedented look at the highs and lows of heavy metal history, spotlighting the human stories behind some of the genre’s most influential and controversial figures.
