Two Metallica fans were arrested and charged with trespassing after allegedly climbing a central tower inside Optus Stadium during the band’s November 1 concert in Perth, Australia.
Authorities identified the individuals as a 20-year-old man from Carey Park and a 23-year-old man from Australind. Both were removed from the venue and are scheduled to appear in court in connection with the incident.
Photos and footage captured by 10 News showed police officers speaking to the shirtless men perched atop the tower, instructing them to come down before taking them into custody and escorting them out during Saturday night’s show.
“It will be alleged the men climbed up the central tower inside the bowl at the Metallica concert held at Optus Stadium on Saturday,” said a spokesperson for the Western Australia Police, according to News.com.au.
The current Australian leg of Metallica’s M72 world tour marks the band’s first visit Down Under in more than ten years. Support acts for the tour include Evanescence and Suicidal Tendencies.
Organizers confirmed that over 60,000 tickets were sold for the Perth performance, underscoring the immense anticipation surrounding the band’s return to the region.
Following the Perth concert, Metallica’s tour will continue with shows at Adelaide Oval on Wednesday, November 5; Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium on Saturday, November 8; Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium on Wednesday, November 12; and will conclude at Sydney’s Accor Stadium on Saturday, November 15. The band will also make a stop in Auckland, New Zealand, performing at Eden Park on Wednesday, November 19.
Metallica’s last performance in Australia took place in 2013 when they headlined the Soundwave Festival.
The M72 world tour — named after their 2023 album 72 Seasons — is produced by Live Nation and features the band performing from an elaborate stage setup that includes their signature Snake Pit, which extends from the front of the stage into the crowd.
While most of Metallica’s 2024 and 2025 shows have featured their “No-Repeat Weekend” format — where the band performs two nights in the same city with entirely different setlists — the Australian and New Zealand concerts are being promoted as “One Night Only” events, giving fans a single, unforgettable night with the legendary metal icons.
