The air above Milwaukee will crackle with a potent blend of nostalgia and sonic savagery this May. The Milwaukee Metal Festival, a two-day celebration of all things heavy, has unearthed a true gem for its 2024 lineup: I Am Morbid, featuring ex-Morbid Angel members David Vincent and Pete “Commando” Sandoval, will perform the legendary death metal album “Altars of Madness” in its entirety.
For fans of the genre, this is akin to unearthing a holy grail. “Altars of Madness” is a cornerstone of death metal, a record that redefined brutality and cemented Morbid Angel‘s place in the pantheon of extreme metal gods. Released in 1989, it unleashed a torrent of blast beats, guttural growls, and razor-sharp riffs that still resonate today.
Of course, “Altars of Madness” is just one piece of the Milwaukee Metal Festival puzzle. The two-day lineup boasts a diverse array of metal titans, from the soaring power metal of Blind Guardian to the blackened thrash of Marduk, and everything in between.
