Ghost has added major achievements to its catalog, as “Mary On A Cross” was certified double platinum by the RIAA on November 13, marking two million certified units. The milestone arrives just a little over two years after it became the first Ghost track to earn platinum status. That same day, “Dance Macabre”, the second single from the band’s 2018 album Prequelle, also reached platinum certification.
The RIAA defines one equivalent song unit as either a single digital purchase or 150 on-demand audio or video streams.
Much of the renewed momentum behind “Mary On A Cross” began when a TikTok creator paired a slowed-down version of the track with a short clip related to the Netflix series Stranger Things. After that moment, the song quickly became a viral soundtrack, appearing in tens of thousands of videos across the platform. Ghost later issued an official slowed-down version of the track, complete with added reverb.
Following the cancellation of their September 23 Mexico City performance — caused by frontman Tobias Forge’s bout of food poisoning — the band’s two shows at the 20,000-seat Palacio De Los Deportes on September 24 and 25 were filmed on 16mm. The band shared that the footage was captured “for the rest of the world to see at some point”.
This August, Ghost wrapped the first U.S. run of the Skeletour, supporting their April release Skeletá. The tour marked a significant shift in the group’s stage production, described as their most cinematic and ambitious setup to date. Developed by creative director Tobias Rylander alongside Forge, the live show expanded the band’s visual and theatrical approach on an unprecedented scale.
