Paul Di’Anno, former lead vocalist for Iron Maiden, has passed away at the age of 66. The announcement came from his label, Conquest Music, on behalf of his family.
“On behalf of his family, Conquest Music are sad to confirm the death of Paul Andrews, professionally known as Paul Di’Anno,” read the statement from the label. “Paul passed away at his home in Salisbury at the age of 66.”
“Born in Chingford, East London, on May 17, 1958, Di’Anno gained international recognition between 1978 and 1981 as the frontman of the legendary heavy metal band. During his time with the group, he provided vocals for their self-titled debut album “Iron Maiden” and its pivotal follow-up, “Killers,” both of which left an indelible mark on the genre.”
“Following his departure from Iron Maiden, Di’Anno embarked on a diverse and lengthy career. He recorded with bands such as Battlezone and Killers, in addition to releasing several solo albums and making numerous guest appearances. Despite facing significant health issues in recent years, which required him to perform from a wheelchair, Di’Anno remained dedicated to his fans, performing over 100 shows since 2023.”
“His first career retrospective album, “The Book of the Beast,” released in September 2024, featured a curated collection of his post-Iron Maiden recordings, further cementing his impact on the metal world.”
“Conquest Music are proud to have had Paul Di’Anno in our artist family and ask his legion of fans to raise a glass in his memory,” the label concluded.
