Dream Theater has officially canceled its plans to tour Europe in 2026 in support of their latest studio album, Parasomnia. The band announced the decision through social media earlier today (Thursday, October 9), citing an overloaded touring schedule and the need for a break from the region after several consecutive European runs.

The group is currently in the midst of its U.S. An Evening With Dream Theater tour, a special concert series celebrating Parasomnia by performing the record in full. The show also features a complete performance of the band’s seven-part epic A Change of Seasons—played in its entirety for the first time since drummer Mike Portnoy rejoined the group—as well as a collection of classics and fan favorites spanning their career.

In their statement, Dream Theater shared: “ATTENTION all EU/UK Dream Theater fans: We know we promised we’d be back in 2026 with our full Parasomnia show, but sadly sometimes plans change… after much discussion, after 2 European legs on our 40th Anniversary Tour in 2024 and 2025 (as well as EU tours the previous two years in 2022 & 2023 as well), we’ve made the hard decision to skip a return to EU/UK in 2026.”

The band continued, saying: “We are currently on the final 3 weeks of our US Parasomnia/A Change of Seasons Tour, so there’s still time to come on over to the States to catch this show if you are so inclined… it really is an amazing show! And if we can’t bring it over to you, we at least wanted to give the heads up so you’d have the option of coming to us to catch it. We look forward to returning to EU/UK when we begin our next tour cycle in either 2027 or 2028!”

Earlier this year, Dream Theater wrapped the spring and summer 2025 leg of their 40th Anniversary European Tour, which began on June 3 at Logomo in Turku, Finland.

Released on February 7, 2025, via InsideOut Music, Parasomnia is Dream Theater’s first album to feature Portnoy since 2009’s Black Clouds & Silver Linings. Produced by guitarist John Petrucci, engineered by James “Jimmy T” Meslin, and mixed by Andy Sneap, the album showcases cover art by longtime collaborator Hugh Syme.

Clocking in at 71 minutes, Parasomnia features eight songs, six of which run longer than seven minutes. The record closes with the nearly 20-minute epic “The Shadow Man Incident”. The album follows 2021’s A View from the Top of the World, which reached the Top 10 on Billboard’s Top Hard Rock Albums, Top Rock Albums, and Independent Albums charts.

The band’s North American 40th Anniversary Tour kicked off on February 7 at The Met in Philadelphia and concluded on March 22 in New York City. It marked Dream Theater’s first North American outing since Portnoy’s return to the lineup, joining Petrucci, James LaBrie, John Myung, and Jordan Rudess.

Formed in 1985 under the name Majesty by Portnoy, Petrucci, and Myung while studying at the Berklee College of Music, Dream Theater has become one of the defining forces in progressive metal. LaBrie joined the band in 1991, and Rudess completed the classic lineup in 1999.
