Deftones recently celebrated another successful edition of their annual music festival, Dia De Los Deftones, with a sold-out event on November 2, 2024, at Petco Park in San Diego. Originally launched in 2018, the festival returned in 2022 after a pandemic-induced hiatus and has since solidified its place as a standout event in the alt-metal calendar.
The 2024 lineup boasted an impressive roster of genre-spanning acts, including Idles, Sunny Day Real Estate (performing their iconic album “Diary” in full), Health, Paris Texas, Duster, Gel, and Qendresa. The combination created a musically diverse experience, bringing together fans of everything from post-punk to experimental rock under one roof. Check out a festival recap video below.
Deftones treated fans to a 20-song setlist that dove deep into their catalog, with special performances of rarely played songs like “Lhabia,” “Beauty School,” and “Hexagram” — each being performed live for the first time since 2018. The band also debuted a cover of Japan’s “Ghosts,” showcasing their appreciation for lesser-known classics and offering a fresh experience for festival-goers.
When discussing the festival’s unique appeal, frontman Chino Moreno once compared it to creating a “mix tape”—only, in this case, a live show where different artists share the same stage. As he told the San Diego Union-Tribune before the inaugural event, “It’s a well-rounded event that—even if we weren’t performing at it—I think we’d enjoy going to as music fans.”
