In a new special edition of The David Ellefson Show, Joshua Toomey takes over the host seat to speak with David Ellefson, Jeff Scott Soto, and Andy Martongelli about the making of their newest album, Unbreakable.
Ellefson, the Grammy-winning bassist and former member of Megadeth, reunited with renowned vocalist Jeff Scott Soto for their second collaborative album, Unbreakable, which was released on Friday, August 15, through Rat Pak Records.
During the discussion, Ellefson explained how writing for Soto’s voice was a different experience compared to working with Dave Mustaine. Soto highlighted how much he enjoyed the creative process this time around, while Martongelli and the rest of the group spoke about the natural chemistry that drives their sound.
“This album digs even deeper,” said Ellefson. “It’s heavier, more personal, and shaped by everything we’ve experienced on and off the stage.”
Soto added: “The energy we poured into this one — it’s the sound of two lifetimes colliding in riffs, rage, and redemption.”
Ellefson also noted: “One of the things I like most is I feel like you can hear a real sense of brotherhood on our records, that we’re really in the creative process together as a band. The consistency of our sound has remained intact while allowing us to further build upon each other’s strengths from our debut album. It’s an honest, organic approach that blends well and lets us explore new sounds and musical paths. At the end of the day, I don’t think there is anything that an artist desires more than that!”
The lineup also features drummer Paolo Caridi. The new release delivers 11 tracks and includes guest spots from Tim “Ripper” Owens of KK’s Priest and Laura Guldemond, front-woman of Burning Witches.
The album was recorded at Rogue Studios in Wembley, U.K., with engineering by Alessio Garavello and production handled by Chris Collier, known for his work with Mick Mars, Korn, and Flat Black. The result is a collection of songs that mix heavy riffs, melodic hooks, and reflective lyrics, combining traditional metal influences with a modern edge.
Unbreakable is now streaming on all major platforms. Limited edition signed vinyl, CDs, and cassette bundles are available exclusively here.
