Dave Lombardo, legendary drummer and co-founder of thrash metal icons Slayer, has blended his Cuban heritage and lifelong love of coffee into a unique new project — his own signature coffee brand. Known for his work with bands like Suicidal Tendencies, Misfits, Mr. Bungle, Testament, Fantômas, and many more, Lombardo is now releasing a private label espresso roast called Double Kick, packaged in collectible drum-shaped tins.
This release combines Lombardo’s love of music and coffee into a striking product designed for fans, musicians, and collectors. The first in a planned signature series, these tom-tom drum tins allow fans to add a one-of-a-kind item to their drum or music memorabilia collection.
Lombardo explained the inspiration behind the project: “Coffee’s always been a part of my DNA. I had my first taste as a kid — and I’ve been rattling ever since. For years, I’ve thought about releasing my own brew. The name Lombardo’s Double Kick has been in my head since 2015 — but I was never going to put my name on something that didn’t hit hard enough.”
He continued, “After two years of working closely with Coterie Coffee Co., Double Kick finally exists — and it rips. Through precision roasting, we developed a bold and smooth-flavored blend, never bitter — power-packed with pure thrash fuel.”
Discussing the design of the product, Lombardo added, “The tin design is based on one of my favorite kits, and the font? A direct nod to a logo I slashed out years ago. This isn’t just coffee — it’s a collector’s piece.”
Each drum tin comes individually packaged in a custom gift box, making Double Kick an ideal collectible or gift for music lovers and drummers. The coffee itself is crafted from Costa Rican beans carefully chosen by Lombardo and roasted to his exact specifications by Concept Cafes and Coterie Coffee Co. According to Lombardo, whether you’re pulling a single espresso shot or brewing a full pot, the bold taste mirrors the energy and precision of his legendary double kick drumming technique.
Born in Havana, Cuba, Lombardo moved to Los Angeles at just two years old. He started drumming as a teenager and co-founded Slayer in 1981, also designing the band’s original logo. His groundbreaking style earned him a place among the greatest drummers in rock and metal history. Rolling Stone once referred to him as the “Cuban speed demon” in their list of the “100 Greatest Drummers Of All Time.” Modern Drummer magazine has dubbed him “The King,” while Drummerworld named him “the godfather of double bass.”
Throughout his career, Lombardo has recorded or performed live on over 100 studio albums and projects. His extensive résumé includes collaborations with Grip Inc., Fantômas, Suicidal Tendencies, Venamoris, Misfits, John Zorn, Testament, Empire State Bastard, and Dead Cross, alongside his legendary years with Slayer.
With Double Kick, Lombardo shows no signs of slowing down. He hinted that 2026 will bring even more surprises, suggesting it could be one of his most innovative and exciting years yet.
