A dream team of musicians recently emerged from the “nightless nights” of the north to deliver a brand new sound they’re calling “Nordic Gothic.”

Cemetery Skyline, features members of Dark Tranquillity, Insomnium, Amorphis, Dimmu Borgir, and Sentenced. After summoning a “Violent Storm” in early April, they are now shrouding you “In Darkness”, with an accompanying music video directed by Patric Ullaeus (rEvolver Film Company) and filmed in a famous theater in Gothenburg.

“It is a song about losing your sense of self in all kinds of misery and doubt”, says Mikael Stanne about the lyrics of the song, while Santeri Kallio sheds light on the music: “I like to think that people feel the melody and the vibe with this one. It’s taking me back to a gothic disco in Düsseldorf in ’96. There is a lot of smoke, a lot of lights, good melodies, a nice and steady beat.”

Markus Vanhala further elaborates: “After the first single, it shows a different side of goth. Goths like to dance…in darkness. Dancing with themselves or with myself, like Billy Idol once said, who had a valid point.”

Cemetery Skyline promises a unique blend of heavy riffs and raw emotions, wrapped in a dark and atmospheric soundscape. They describe it as “something which has not been out there before,” teetering between gothic rock, dark rock, and even heavy metal.

Cemetery Skyline. A band crawling out from the Scandinavian nightless nights. Formed somewhere in time in 2020, from the idea to create ageless dark music with respect to our generation’s biggest influencers. This Nordic collaboration was born with the plan to create something that has not been out there before, something different from all the music the band members have ever done. A unique combination of heavy riffs and emotions packed in a dark and deep creative context. You may call it gothic rock, dark rock, or even heavy metal. We just call it Nordic Gothic,” the band declares.

With a pedigree like this, Cemetery Skyline is sure to turn heads (and horns) in the metal scene. Will “Nordic Gothic” become the next big genre? Time will tell.

  • Mikael Stanne / Vocals
  • Markus Vanhala / Guitars
