Bad Omens have officially returned with their much-anticipated single “Specter”, released through Sumerian Records. For months, the band had been hinting at a new chapter with the cryptic phrase “goodbye, friend,” and now they’ve unveiled a track that pushes their sound into fresh territory.
Opening with an airy, atmospheric arrangement, “Specter” gradually swells into a powerful, emotionally charged chorus layered with eerie electronic textures. These elements create an intense soundscape that pairs seamlessly with the song’s cinematic music video. Directed by Noah Sebastian and Nico, the video draws viewers into a shadowy fantasy world exploring themes of loss, betrayal, and the supernatural. Ahead of the release, fans were teased with striking clips featuring actor Ryan Hurst, known for Sons of Anarchy and Remember the Titans, heightening anticipation.
“Specter” is the first new release from Bad Omens since their RIAA gold-certified album The Death of Peace of Mind, the record that solidified their place at the forefront of modern rock. The album has racked up over 2.7 billion streams globally, produced the platinum-certified No. 1 Alternative Radio single “Just Pretend”, and yielded two gold singles — “Like a Villain” and “Death of Peace of Mind”. In 2024, the band expanded on the album’s universe with Concrete Jungle [The Ost], an experimental reimagining that further demonstrated their willingness to innovate.
The group’s 2025 festival calendar reflects their continued rise, with performances at Summerfest, Welcome to Rockville, and Rock Fest, plus headlining slots at Louder Than Life and Aftershock.
Much of their recent momentum can be traced back to the viral success of “Just Pretend” on TikTok, which introduced them to a wave of new fans. That track became their first RIAA platinum-certified single, topping U.S. Alternative Radio and dominating several Billboard Year-End charts, including No. 1 on Hot Hard Rock Songs and No. 6 on Alternative Airplay Songs. Their seductive, brooding title track “The Death of Peace of Mind” also climbed into the Top 10 on U.S. Rock and Alternative Airplay charts. These achievements earned the band a 2024 iHeartRadio Music Award nomination for “Best New Artist (Alt & Rock).”
Throughout 2024, Bad Omens maintained a relentless tour schedule, performing sold-out shows across the globe. They joined Bring Me the Horizon for U.K. dates and headlined their Concrete Forever European run with Poppy as support, alongside numerous U.S. performances and festival appearances — momentum they are carrying straight into the 2025 season.
