For a band known for its brooding melodies and thoughtful evolution, Amorphis continues to push its own boundaries. The Finnish progressive metal veterans are set to release their fifteenth studio album, Borderland, on September 26 via Reigning Phoenix Music. This marks the band’s first full-length since 2022’s Halo, and with it comes a shift in creative partnership that could signal new textures in their already expansive sound.

Borderland is the first Amorphis album produced in collaboration with Danish producer Jacob Hansen,” guitarist Esa Holopainen explained. “Before that, we had made three amazing records at Jens Bogren‘s studio. During the planning phase of the project, we strongly felt that it was time to explore something new and see what working with a different producer might bring to the table!”

Hansen’s reputation precedes him. Based out of Hansen Studios in Ribe, Denmark, he’s been a fixture in heavy music production for over 20 years. His credits span a wide sonic range, having worked with artists like Volbeat, Arch Enemy, Amaranthe, Katatonia, The Black Dahlia Murder, Pretty Maids, Epica, Delain, and Evergrey. That diversity may be exactly what Amorphis is looking for as they lean into the next phase of their sound.

The first glimpse of this new direction will arrive with the single “Light And Shadow”, scheduled for release on June 6. Pre-save it here.

Borderland will be released in time for a massive headline tour in their home country as well as a trip as part of an arena-filling package with Arch Enemy, Eluveitie, and Getecreeper. All dates are below, and tickets can be found here.
