Alice In Chains is marking the 15th anniversary of their pivotal 2009 album, “Black Gives Way To Blue,” with a special vinyl reissue. This album, which has been out of print since its initial release, has long been a highly sought-after gem for hard rock enthusiasts. Set to hit the shelves on September 27, the reissue is currently available for pre-order.
In addition to the standard 2-LP version, fans can opt for one of three limited-edition color pressings: Black Widow (exclusively available through the Alice In Chains store), Black Smoke (via the Craft Recordings store), and Electric Smoke (offered by Revolver).
Besides the vinyl, the band is also releasing a custom jacket, exclusively available on their website, plus a limited edition coffee table book with photos spanning the last 15 years of their career, in tribute to their late friend and longtime crewmember Scott Dachroeden, who shot many of these pictures on and off the stage.

“Black Gives Way To Blue” is Alice In Chains fourth studio album, originally released on September 29, 2009. This project holds particular significance as it was the band’s first album to feature William DuVall, who shared vocal and guitar responsibilities with founding member Jerry Cantrell. The lineup was rounded out by Mike Inez on bass and Sean Kinney, a founding member, on drums.
The album was a return to form for the band, capturing their signature sound of dark, churning rock. As noted by critics, “To everybody’s credit, Black Gives Way to Blue sounds like it could have been delivered a year after Alice in Chains: it’s unconcerned with fashion; it’s true to their dark, churning gloom rock; and if you’re not paying attention too closely, it’s easy to mistake DuVall for his predecessor. There’s a difference between desperately attempting to recapture past glories and reconnecting with their roots, and Alice in Chains fall into the latter category.”
