Today sees the debut of King Ultramega, a dynamic new tribute endeavor dedicated to celebrating the legacy of Chris Cornell. The project launches with an ambitious reimagining of Soundgarden’s classic track “Rusty Cage.”

Supported by Reigning Phoenix Music and MusiCares, the initiative is both a musical homage and a charitable effort. The track was mixed and mastered by the acclaimed Josh Wilbur, known for his work with many prominent rock and metal acts.

King Ultramega gathers a rotating lineup of renowned musicians hailing from bands such as Alice In Chains, Anthrax, Mastodon, Metal Allegiance, Soundgarden, and others. Together, they are united not only in honoring Cornell’s musical genius but also in raising funds for MusiCares, a nonprofit organization that provides mental health and addiction recovery support to members of the music community.

In the months ahead, King Ultramega is set to unveil additional reimagined versions of songs from Soundgarden, Audioslave, Temple of The Dog, and Cornell’s solo repertoire. Each release will continue to pay tribute to his enduring influence while aiding musicians who are navigating mental health and addiction challenges.

The debut single “Rusty Cage” features:

William DuVall (Alice in Chains): Vocals
Bill Kelliher (Mastodon): Guitars
Mark Menghi (Metal Allegiance): Bass
Charlie Benante (Anthrax, Pantera): Drums
