SPOCK’S BEARD / ENCHANT Singer TED LEONARD About His LEGACY MUSIC FOUNDATION: “We’re Not Trying to Churn Out the Next Yngwie Malmsteen. We Are Trying to Foster an Interest that Hopefully Becomes Therapy For Them”

Ted Leonard stands in front of his audience—and he’s nervous.  These folks don’t know him.  They’ve never heard of his bands, Enchant and Spock’s Beard.  They’re expecting something great to happen, so the pressure is on.  Ted takes his guitar and slowly picks out notes and chords—and the audience smiles in recognition.  Lynyrd Skynyrd!

The smiles are on the faces of two tow-headed boys under the age of 11.  Ted is teaching them to play guitar—and, hopefully, to use music as a therapy.  These kids are at-risk, in danger of sliding into the dark hole beneath society.  Ted and his wife Denise are determined to prevent that.  Welcome to the world of Legacy Music Inc.

Denise and Ted Leonard, the couple behind Legacy Music Inc. Foundation

Sonic Perspectives’ veteran Mark Boardman spoke with the Leonards about this labor of love—and how they’re using their talents and experiences to make a difference in the lives of young people. This is not one of our usual interviews with musical heroes – even though Ted Leonard is also one of the most gifted singers and musicians we have ever seen – but more a loose and natural conversation with two souls trying to make their dent in the world by helping other. Check out their chat in the audio player below, and remember to subscribe to our Podcast in several platforms to listen and be notified about new interviews and contents we publish on daily basis.
