FLOTSAM AND JETSAM’s Guitarist MIKE GILBERT: “There’s Something Unique About How We’re Writing Up Music Now, Some of Our Older Albums Wouldn’t Hold a Candle Against THE END OF CHAOS”

What do you do when you unleashed arguably the finest hour in your 30-plus year career and you are ready to record its follow-up? You head back to the dark n’ dusty garage to keep that momentum going.

Flotsam and Jetsam – the album – saw the Arizona veteran band firing on all cylinders, writing/performing years younger than a band with three decades of power and glory notched on their bullet belts. Now, their upcoming album The End Of Chaos is loaded with 12 crushing songs that clock in at nearly 50 minutes, so for traditional thrashers there is plenty bone to chew on. Like a prize-fighter that refuses to kneel down, Flotsam And Jetsam tread onward with black eyes and bloody noses. It’s the youthful exuberance and a certain ‘we don’t give a flying f**k about age or time’ mentality. And the kinetic energy that they exude on stage is quite contrary to their street persona.

The End Of Chaos is “our heaviest release yet and can’t wait to share the chaos across the globe,” guitarist and founding member Michael Gilbert says with complete and utter confidence.  Mike sat down with Sonic Perspectives authors Joel Barrios and Rodrigo Altaf, and they discussed the new record extensively, the contributions of new drummer Ken Mary whom Mike refers to “A super polite and funny guy who turns into a monster when he sits behind the drums”, the ups and downs of the band throughout history, the chemistry in the creative process with the new line-up, and what fans can expect in terms fo setlist for the upcoming tour. 1. Yes .I love what ur doing .I .have a question Freddy Robinson in Phoenix AZ. Has quite a good reputation. For playing guitar. Is there some way to help other musicians as good as he is .

  2. LOVE F&J -and so glad I got to finally know and see this band only in the last few years!! Always heard about them ‘back in the day’ but didn’t hear about them in my region in NorCal, till Jason Newstead went to Metallica. As soon as I saw them a few years ago, I have sought them out whenever they’re back in Cali. They are one of my favorite bands ever, lined up with Queensryche and Maiden!! Thanks Mike G, Eric, and whole band for the GREAT music -and love this interview! FLOTS TILL DEATH
