Having joined Porcupine Tree’s touring band in 2022, Randy McStine has suddenly popped on the radar of many who hadn’t heard of him before. The talented multi-instrumentalist and vocalist started his professional career with his Lo-Fi Resistance project over ten years ago, continuing with solo album releases, a collaboration with Nick D’Virgilio and Jonas Reingold called The Fringe and most recently, a project with Marco Minnemann which has released two McStine Minnemann albums since 2020. Along the way he has recorded countless cameos on other artist’s albums and toured with a wide range of bands in the rock, prog-rock and folk-rock worlds.

In this brand new interview, Sonic Perspectives‘s prog-rock specialist Scott Medina catches up with McStine during a short break in the Porcupine Tree tour to discuss many facets of coming in to join the band on their new tour. Watch the YouTube video of their chat below and make sure to follow Sonic Perspectives on Facebook, Flipboard and Twitter and  subscribe to our YouTube channel to be notified about new interviews and contents we publish on a daily basis.

  1. Such a cool dude. Saw him twice on current PT tour but also was able to see him on the Cruise to the Edge cruise earlier this year with Marco Minnemann for some fantastic shows. So fortunate that he is one of the new generation of musicians supporting and advancing progressive music for us and others today and in the future. One of the coolest moments on the cruise was when they announced he was going to be touring with Porcupine Tree this year!

  2. Looking forward to taking a listen to this! Was privileged to have a short post-PT-Premiere-Night chat with Randy in Toronto, and he truly is a lovely guy!
