John Macaluso is a man who’s proud of his work. And judging by his output, he has every right to be: starting his career with American power-thrash metal band POWERMAD, he also worked with TNT and RIOT, before founding the groundbreaking ARK with Tore Østby and Jørn Lande. He went to on collaborate with a million other artists such as Yngwie Malmsteen, James LaBrie, Dee Snider and temporarily replaced Jason Rullo in SYMPHONY X in 2013. Which brings us to his latest collaboration: he played drums on Michael Romeo‘s first solo album, War of the Worlds, Pt. 1, which is a strong contender for album of the year.
In this career-spanning interview with Sonic Perspectives collaborator Rodrigo Altaf, John talks about his influences, his studies with Rod Morgenstein (DIXIE DREGS) and Tommy Aldridge (WHITESNAKE), his work with Michael Romeo on his new album, and the intention to put together a tour to celebrate ARK‘s legacy.
